Half-life continued…

May 16, 2011

Yesterday at the Portland airport I wrote a quick thought about the long-term effects of events and people.

Why is it though that the influence of some events/people throughout history have such a long half-life?

For example; the Greek influence on politics. Or the reformation of the protestant church starting with Luther. No doubt 9/11 will have a long lived influence even with Osama bin Laden dead. The iPod and iTunes definitely made some ripples in the music industry.

I think that there are some events or people which make such a large dent or innovation that the resulting ripples go on for longer than those of others.

If you want to extend the half-life of what you do, increase your innovation. Make a dent.
